Inscribed Devon bobbins are scarce. The young fishermen sometimes took them to sea with them to decorate, so the decorations often include pictures of fishes and mermaids.

Very slender old bobbin, completely covered in incised diamonds and triangles in rows. At the top of the shank are the incised letters S J and a motif. $40 |
Covered in very small incised decoration in a geometric pattern of diamonds and triangles, themselves made up of tiny triangles. At the tip in a large triangle are the letters RM above a tiny heart. These are coloured red. On the other side is another large triangle with the letter MA in red. £25 - Sold ($40) |
